Beauty queens in fundraising drive for charities

BEAUTY queens transformed themselves into forces sweethearts as they launched a charity fundraising drive for Help For Heroes.
The 24 finalists in Miss Sunderland 2010 were revealed at the launch of the competition yesterday at the Pullman Lodge in Seaburn, South Tyneside, a former railway carriage converted into a restaurant.
The event will help raise money for the Armed Forces charity Help For Heroes and the children’s hospice Grace House.
Among the finalists announced yesterday are Kelsey Brown, 18, from Saltburn, east Cleveland, Rachel Lilley, 20, from Hartlepool, Rebecca MacGeekie, 17, from Darlington, Kayla Bunton, 18, from Hartlepool, Katie Ford, 21, from Yarm, near Stockton, and Danielle Taggart, 17, from Peterlee, who is making her beauty contest debut.
Organiser Simon Robertson said: “To embrace Help For Heroes we have adopted a retro Fifties forces sweetheart theme especially for the final. It’s all about back to the old days of beauty contests in the holiday camps of the Fifties.”
The final, hosted by Tyne- Tees weather presenter Philippa Tomson, will take place on Friday, June 25.
